Adherence has no server and no account. What you log — your plates, your portions, your scores — stays on this phone, and we cannot see it, because there is nowhere for it to arrive. The app sends a small number of anonymous usage events that carry nothing you entered and cannot be linked to you; they are described below.
What is stored on your phone
The dishes you confirmed, the portion you chose for each one and when you logged it. A dish you described yourself is stored along with it, since it is not in the app’s catalog. Which diets you have switched on. Whether you chose light or dark. That is the whole list.
Photos
The camera is used to propose dishes, and recognition runs on this device. A photo is held in the app’s temporary storage while you confirm what it shows; it is never added to your log and never uploaded. Once you confirm or cancel, the app keeps no reference to it and iOS clears its temporary storage in the normal way. Adherence never asks for access to your photo library.
Scoring and recognition never leave your device
Scoring is arithmetic that runs here, and recognising a plate runs here too. Neither sends anything anywhere — not the photo, not the dish, not the score. The app works exactly the same with no network connection at all.
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand whether the app works for people — for example, how many users log a second plate — it sends a small number of anonymous events to Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics service. Each event is the name of a milestone, plus basic app and device facts: app version, iOS version and language. Nothing you entered is ever included — not a dish, not a portion, not a score, not how much you have logged. The events carry no name, no account, no device ID, no advertising ID and no stored IP address; only a random session number that resets every hour and is tied to nothing. They cannot be linked to you, by us or by Aptabase.
Paying for the app
The app is free to try and then a one-time purchase, handled entirely by Apple. Payment goes through your Apple ID: we never see or store your card, your name or your billing address, and no purchase information is sent anywhere by the app. Whether you are on the free trial is worked out on your phone alone, from a date kept in the iOS keychain, and that date is never transmitted. Three of the anonymous milestones above concern this — that a trial began, that the payment screen was opened, and that a purchase completed — and like the others they are names only: no price, no currency, no receipt, nothing that identifies you.
No ads, no tracking
There is no advertising, no crash reporter and no third-party tracker. The only measurement is the anonymous, unlinkable usage events described above. The app does not use your device’s advertising identifier and cannot follow you across other apps or websites.
No account
There is no sign-up, email address or password, and nothing that identifies you. Scoring is arithmetic that runs here, so an account would have nothing to do.
Backups
If iCloud Backup is switched on in your iOS Settings, Apple may include this app’s stored data in your encrypted device backup, under your own Apple ID. That is handled entirely by Apple under Apple’s terms — we have no access to it and no control over it. Profile also has a Backup row that exports your log and settings to a file you choose where to put — Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop or anywhere else iOS offers. That file is yours and it is plain, readable JSON: once you have saved or sent it, what happens to it is outside the app, so keep it somewhere you would keep anything else about your health. The app never uploads it anywhere itself, and it contains nothing that could unlock a purchase or restart a free trial.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything it has stored, permanently. There is no copy anywhere else to ask us about. If the data is part of an iCloud backup, manage or delete that backup in your iOS Settings.
Your dietary information
What you eat can be sensitive, and it is treated that way: it never leaves this device through the app, and no one else ever sees it.
Children
Adherence is intended for adults, 18 or older. It is not directed at children, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
GDPR, CCPA and similar laws
Those laws give you the right to see, correct, delete or export the personal data a company holds about you. We hold none. There is no server, no account and no record of you anywhere, so there is nothing for us to produce or erase. The anonymous usage events described above contain no personal data and cannot be linked to you. Your data is on your phone, under your control.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it. Any future version will keep the rule the app is built on: what you log stays on your device.
